A Small Homestead with a Big Heart

Welcome to Hentastic Gardens, a small family homestead in Westminster, Maryland, founded by Vaughn and Tina.

If you had told either of us years ago that we'd one day be raising chickens, goats, cattle, and growing our own food, we probably would have laughed. Neither of us grew up on a farm. Vaughn grew up in the suburbs of New Jersey, and Tina grew up in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Farming wasn't part of our childhood—it was something we discovered together through a shared passion for animals, self-sufficiency, and producing food we could truly be proud of.

What started with a few chickens has grown into something we never imagined. Today, Hentastic Gardens is more than a place where food is grown—it's a way of life built around compassion, hard work, and a commitment to doing things the right way.

We believe food should be simple, honest, and raised the way nature intended—without shortcuts, unnecessary chemicals, or sacrificing animal welfare for higher production. We don't aspire to become a large commercial operation. We intentionally choose to remain a small homestead where every animal receives individual care and every decision reflects our values.

Our pasture-raised hens spend their days roaming, scratching, dust bathing, and living the way chickens were meant to live. The result is beautiful, colorful eggs that are as nutritious as they are delicious.

Our vegetables are grown using organic, chemical-free practices that focus on building healthy soil, encouraging biodiversity, and producing incredible flavor—not maximizing yields.

Our cattle are raised slowly and humanely with fresh pasture, clean water, quality nutrition, and plenty of individual attention. We never believe in rushing an animal simply to reach a market date. Healthy, low-stress animals produce better food, and more importantly, they deserve to live good lives.

While we love providing fresh eggs, vegetables, and beef to our community, the animals themselves are at the heart of everything we do.

Every animal here has a name, a personality, and a story. We celebrate their quirks, care for them through illnesses and injuries, and make decisions based on what's best for them—not what's easiest or most profitable. Many people are surprised by how attached we become, but to us, they're more than livestock. They're part of our family.

Animal welfare isn't a slogan—it's the foundation of Hentastic Gardens.

Whether that means providing large pastures to explore, investing in better housing, offering enrichment, working closely with veterinarians, or spending countless hours caring for an animal that needs extra help, we believe every life deserves kindness and respect.
